Luggage Log: a smart, shareable packing list for the whole travel crew

Who's packing the toothbrushes? Luggage Log keeps the trip, the packing list and the whole crew in one place. Real-time, shareable, with an AI assistant that helps you pack.

The task

Group trips are chaos. Who's packing the toothbrushes? Did anyone remember the travel adapter? Who grabbed the beach towels?

The apps out there are either too heavy. Full trip planning with flights, hotels and calendars. Or far too simple. A shared note with no structure and no overview. What was missing was one focused tool: a smart packing list you can share with the whole crew.

The solution

Luggage Log is a mobile app built in Ionic Vue 3 with Capacitor for native iOS and Android. Pinia for state management, TypeScript across the whole codebase. The backend is FastAPI (Python) with PocketBase for persistence and JWT auth. Real-time sync over WebSocket per trip, so everyone on the trip sees updates live.

You create trips with items grouped into categories. A trip can be private or shared. When it's shared, you can assign items to specific people and mark things packed per person. Save a packing list as a template and reuse it next time. An AI assistant (Anthropic/DeepSeek) parses spoken or written text and suggests items automatically.

The architecture uses DIP at the edges: IQrScanner, ISpeechToText, ITrackingStrategy and ILogger are all abstracted interfaces with injected real implementations. An offline queue replays failed mutations on reconnect. Push notifications via web push and Capacitor.

The result

The app is live at app.luggage-log.com. Hosted on Coolify on Hetzner. It supports Danish and English.

It covers the whole flow from creating a trip to packing it. QR invite scanning, an AI packing assistant and real-time collaboration for the whole team.

It's really just a smart packing list. But it works.
